Dear representatives of UNISCAPE members,
we are glad and proud to inform you that we have received an unexpectedly large number of appreciative and grateful reactions after our conference Landscape & Imagination last week in Paris! Thanks very much to those of you who managed to participate and contribute to this success!
For those who had no occasion to participate: they really lost an opportunity to experience the beginning of a fine tradition of inspiring UNISCAPE conferences!
o we had a vivid and dynamic conference with 250 participants from 30 countries, 5 very inspiring key note lectures, 140 paper presentations and ample space for discussion, exchange and debate.
o our member Paris La Villette had arranged for high level venues for the plenary sessions, with a farewell cocktail on the roof of the Cité de l’Architecture, in front of the Tour Eiffel just on the other side of the Seine! The mayor of Château-Chalons added substantially to this last session with his presentation about his village and terroir. This connected wonderfully to the debate we had in the round table, bringing us immediately back to real-life policy and management of his landscape and terroir. We had the pleasure to taste these in the splendid Vin Jaune produced!
o all papers had been peer-reviewed, revised and edited, and subsequently published in the conference materials, which was available to all participants at registration (Newman, C., Nussaume, Y. & Pedroli, B. (Eds) 2013: Landscape & Imagination: towards a new baseline for education in a changing world. Conference, Paris, May 2-4 2013. We will be working on the conclusions of the Conference, preferably to be published together with the key note lectures in a special issue of a scientific journal.
The General Assembly (you will soon receive minutes) on May 1st decided to stimulate a series of follow-up events of this conference, eventually leading to a next UNISCAPE conference in 2 or 3 years’ time, and you are cordially invited to take initiative for such events.
We will be happy to send you a copy of the conference book.
Please note that our next Careggi seminar – on landscape observatories – is taking place 27-28 June in Florence (see our website).
For those of you who had not yet the opportunity to arrange for the annual fee to be paid, please be kindly reminded to do so.
